As Disciples of Christ and upholders of the values
of justice and hospitality affirmed throughout the Old and New Testaments
and our United Methodist tradition and doctrine, White Plains United
Methodist Church has developed our Safe Sanctuaries Policy and Procedures
to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to providing a place where
children, youth, vulnerable adults, volunteers and staff can be
safe to grow in God, and become the people God intends them to be.
The purpose of the Policy is to help prevent the opportunity for
the occurrence and/or the appearance of abuse of children and youth
and to help protect staff persons and volunteers from false accusations
and/or suspicions.
As detailed in our policy, all staff and volunteers
in relational ministry to youth, children, and vulnerable adults
at White Plains are screened and trained in abuse awareness and
prevention. We follow recognized guidelines for appropriate bounderies
and supervision of adults who interact with children and youth while
at the same time recognizing and affirming that our faith is lived
out in community and that children and youth need positive appropriate
relationships with Christian adult mentors, counselors, and teachers.
